Perhaps you’ve heard about the color-coded cards on a ring that have been developed by KSRA members.  The first cards, for teachers of grades 3 and 5, were rolled out just in time for the October 2008 KSRA conference at Valley Forge.  Not long after, the eighth grade cards were published.

The cards provide just what the title promises:  Help.  One card is provided for each piece of Eligible Content.  On the front of each card are also the Standards and Anchors that correlate with the Eligible Content, along with vocabulary students are likely to see on the test and other concepts that relate to the Eligible Content.

The back of each card contains stem and open-ended questions similar to the questions students will encounter on the PSSA.  Most helpful, according to many teachers, is the Teaching Ideas and Graphic Organizers section.  In that section are ideas for explicitly teaching the Eligible Content using materials at hand.

Teachers need accurate, current information on the PSSA reading tests, and they need it in one place. These grade-specific cards are that place.

And…the card sets are available at the low cost of $8.00 per set.

For more information on the cards, email Karen Davis at kldabc@aol.com. Type “PSSA Cards” in the subject line.
